We charge an hourly rate for service calls. The first hour is $70 + a $10 trip charge. Subsequent hours are broken into 15 minute increments at $70 per hour. Most businesses in this industry have switched to a book rate (like an auto mechanic) where the customer is charged a diagnostic fee first and then the cost for a repair is based upon a fixed number of hours regardless of how long the repair actually takes. So, where we would charge you $80 + the cost of the part with taxes to diagnose and replace a capacitor, flame sensor or hot service ignitor, some of our competition would charge you a $58 diagnostic charge and a $70 labor charge, $128 + the cost of the part. We may not be able to hold out forever, this really is an outdated method of running a service industry, but for now we feel that this is the fairest method for our customers.
